Philangles had a stand at our most prestigious biannual philatelic event held in Islington, central London. This is organised to a very high standard with quality booths, professional signage and a well organised team of paid staff working with volunteers. Much effort is made to encourage young collectors with the stamp active network offering free stamps and advice on collecting. There were copious displays of collections offering collectors ideas on how to display together with seeing some superb material.

The organising committee had attracted a diverse and quality group of trade dealers to the show with representation  from Australia, USA, Scandinavia, Germany together with many well known British companies. There was a fine showing of auction houses.

That said there’s always one bug in the ointment and that’s the fact attendance was wofefully low. Time and again collectors are not venturing out to these shows. The effort and costs to stage such events are monumental. As the saying goes… use it or lose it!

We had a good show, we met many of our clients old and new, handed out reams of catalogues, spoke to collectors wishing to find out how much their treasures are worth and got together with dealers we have known for many years over a cold beer.

Stampex is the most important British philatelic event.

So, put February 2018 in your diary.
